The successful applicant will possess advanced problem solving and critical thinking attributes that will assist in the application and evaluation of contemporary midwifery practice and theory.
The Women's Health Unit currently has a level 4 Neonatal Service with 8 cots. The service has the capability to plan and deliver care to infants greater than 32 weeks gestational age, who have an estimated birth weight of greater than or equal to 1500g, with no additional risk factors (if born at that Mackay Base Hospital). The service may accept transfer of infants of any weight or gestational age from a tertiary centre once the infants are considered stable

As the Mackay Base Hospital undertakes a Maternity Co-design Project in partnership with maternity consumers, our community, and staff from all of our facilities the focus of this project is to enhance maternity care for local women, expectant parents and their families.
We are at the beginning of our engagement which will happen in three phases. Phase one is about hearing how you would like to participate in the co-design project when it launches in phase two. Phase three involves closing the feedback loop and sharing the outcomes of phase two with community and staff.
When phase one is complete we will review feedback received and that will feed into planning for phase two which will be the start of the co-design opportunity.
