North West Hospital and Health Service (NWHSS), headquartered in Mount Isa, operates hospitals, primary health and multipurpose clinics to deliver clinical and community health services in 12 towns across 300,000 square kilometres in the North west of Queensland. NWHSS is a complex operating business with an annual budget of $220m and 760 employees. The CFO will work from the Mount Isa Corporate office, and to have a commitment to living in the town, however flexible working arrangements will be considered. The nature of the role requires the CFO to be actively engaged in the operations and to gain a thorough understanding of the challenges and complexities of each location by attending them.
The CFO is a critical appointment for the service and is responsible for the financial direction and oversight of the budget across the diverse portfolio of clinical and corporate streams. As an Executive Leadership team member, the CFO will collaborate with clinical and corporate leaders to identify and support innovative ways to help deliver high quality patient care in a cost-effective manner. You will ensure sound financial risk management occurs to maximise cash and liquidity and the return on investments.

- Financial Strategy, Performance and Sustainability
- Asset Strategy and Management
- Commercial Strategy, Management, Stakeholder Management and Benefits Realization
- Procurement Strategy and Performance
- Revenue Strategy and Performance
- Funding, Health Information and Costing Services
- Building, Engineering and Facilities Management including staff accommodation
- Financial and Activity Analytics, Reporting and Governance
A CA/CPA Finance professional with strong experience as an Executive is required to handle the complexities of this role. Prior exposure to the Health system will be an advantage but is not essential. You must demonstrate excellent activity-based costing knowledge and have practically applied it in your working career. A leader who has driven cultural change as well as successfully transformed the financial and commercial strategy of a large, complex organisation to deliver process improvements and positive business results will thrive here. A significant six figure salary with accommodation and other benefits will be offered to the successful applicant.
