The role:

The Mount Isa Hospital's Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is a 5 bedded mixed ICU/Coronary Care unit/High dependency Unit; ICU also admits critically ill paediatric and maternity patients.

The ICU provides immediate resuscitative management for the critically ill, short term cardio-respiratory support and simple invasive cardiovascular monitoring.

Patients admitted to ICU have a reversible condition/s that is/are likely to benefit from nursing and/or medical interventions in excess of that achievable in the general ward environment, but not of the severity that would be more appropriately managed in a higher level tertiary Intensive Care Unit.

This role will work as an advanced practice nursing position and demonstrate a specialised clinical expertise and/or specialised skill set.

Permanent part-time role commencing ASAP, 38 hrs p.f.

  • base salary ranges between $64.91 and $70.47 p.h. (Nurse Grade 7).
  • 5 weeks p.a. recreational leave + 17.5% loading.

Staff accommodation may be available or rental subsidy of $82.50 p.w. up to 17 months.

Professional Development: we offer in-house training, development and mentoring programs, and 2 weeks p.a. plus travel as required and enrolment and conference costs for approved courses and conferences.

Rural and Remote incentives: two (2) return airfares p.a. (inc. spouse/dependents) to the nearest east coast provincial city in conjunction with recreation leave. Annual isolation bonus at the conclusion of 1 year $3,500, 2 years $10,500 and 3rd and consecutive years $7,000.

Additional leave options include: purchased, long service, sick, parental, maternity, or adoption leave. Plus rostering allows for one (1) day/month (accumulative) `Accrued Days Off'.

Laundry/Uniform allowance.

Appointment and Transfer expenses may apply.

Role requirements:

  • A Master of Nursing or equivalent post-graduate qualification in the specialty of Intensive Care or Critical Care would be highly regarded.
  • Mandatory requirements are a relevant tertiary degree qualification and appropriate registration/licences.
  • Pre-employment screening will be conducted for the successful applicant.
  • VPD risk role: Hepatitis A/B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Pertussis, Tuberculosis and COVID-19.
