About the Princess Alexandra Hospital (PAH)

The PAH is the largest hospital within Metro South, a tertiary level adult hospital with 899 beds and 199 alternative beds, providing care in all major adult specialties, except for obstetrics. The Executive Director PAH has 12 direct reports and has responsibility for 5500 FTEs and a budget of approximately $1.3bn. The Queensland Government has recently committed to a capital build of an additional 249 beds at PAH, inclusive of a further 20 ICU beds by 2026.

The PAH provides acute medical, surgical, mental health, cancer, rehabilitation, and allied health services as well as state-wide services - including the Queensland Liver and Kidney Transplant Service, Acquired Brain Injury Outreach Service, Transitional Rehabilitation Program, Queensland Amputee Limb Service, and the Spinal Outreach Team.

The PAH is nationally recognised for its expertise in trauma management and is a major transplantation centre for livers, kidneys, bone, cartilage, and corneas. Ancillary services include pastoral care, hospital auxiliary and volunteer services. The hospital has responsibility for the management of the Queensland Kidney Transplant Service and the Queensland Liver Transplant Service, Queensland Tissue Bank. It also houses one of the major Pathology Queensland services. The PAH is Queensland's leading hospital for health research, undertaking research programs with affiliated universities and research institutes. The Translational Research Institute is located on the hospital campus.

About the role

The Executive Director PAH ensures Metro South Hospital and Health Service's (MSHHS) strategic and operational objectives are enabled through the provision of high-quality leadership and management of the PAH.

This role is a senior member of the Metro South Health (MSH) operational leadership team, collaborating with clinical and corporate leaders to enhance relationships and identify, lead, and support innovative ways to deliver high quality, safe, patient-centred health care, and business outcomes.

The Executive Director PAH is directly accountable for the overall performance of the Princess Alexandra Hospital, and in partnership with the clinical streams, provides expert advice on operational matters and contribute to the development of strategic and operational plans, improved business models and processes in alignment with MSH's strategic objectives.

About you

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced leader, with experience leading a hospital or health service of similar proportions and complexity. The successful candidate will have strong human resource and financial management expertise, be calm under pressure and be an inspiring, highly motivated and pragmatic leader.

Ideally, you will hold a relevant tertiary qualification in health service management, or a related discipline and you will possess substantial experience in executive leadership within a large health service environment.
