About your opportunity

Nurse Practitioner Candidate Neonatal / Fixed Term Temporary upto 12 months / 48 hours p.f.

While pursuing a Master of Nursing (Nurse Practitioner), the Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) Candidate will be assisted in acquiring the necessary clinical experience and clinical practise requirements. The medical and nurse practitioner team will mentor and directly supervise the candidate to help them achieve clinical competence at an advanced and expanded level, including newborn retrievals.

The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit has 16 NICU and 25 Special Care Nursery (SCN) cots and coordinates the Neonatal Retrieval / Transport Service for the North Queensland area. The unit provides the only tertiary neonatal service outside Brisbane. The Neonatal Nurse Practitioner functions as part of the combined Neonatal Registrar and Nurse Practitioner roster are required to participate in neonatal retrievals.

The successful candidate will be someone who has proven ability and can demonstrate the following

  • Proven ability to provide expert nursing leadership and coordination within an Neonatal environment
  • Demonstrated advanced leadership, negotiation, conflict resolution and change management skills to ensure customer focused service provision amongst the multidisciplinary team. Demonstrated high level of communication skills required for problem solving and decision making.
  • Proven ability to use information and reporting systems appropriate to the position.
  • Understanding of teaching and learning in the health care environment (adult learning principles) with demonstrated clinical teaching and facilitation skills.

Generous remuneration package value up to $8,415 p.m. comprising:

  • Salary range of $64.90 to $70.47 p.h. (Nurse Grade 7)
  • Annual leave with 17.5% loading
  • 12.75% employer contribution to superannuation.

Requirement:

  • Mandatory: Bachelor of Nursing or Bachelor of Midwifery or equivalent is a mandatory qualification for this position.
  • Proof of qualification, registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and possession of a current practising certificate.
  • Highly Desirable: Possession of a relevant postgraduate qualification in an appropriate field is highly desirable. Such experience may be discipline specific or have a service area focus. Drivers Licence: This position requires the incumbent to operate a class C motor vehicle and an appropriate license endorsement to operate this vehicle is required. Proof of this endorsement must be provided prior to the commencement of duty.
  • This is a Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD) risk role: Hepatitis A/B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, and Pertussis.
  • It is a mandatory requirement to be and to remain vaccinated against COVID-19.
