The Townsville Hospital and Health Service ( ) is the largest tertiary health service in northern Australia; we are responsible for the delivery of healthcare services, education and research within a region covering over 149,500km with a population of approximately 250,000 people.

We cover the continuum of healthcare services from advanced, highly specialised, tertiary-level healthcare at the main hospital to secondary and primary-level hospital and community healthcare across 20 facilities. The main facility is located adjacent to one of Queensland's leading tertiary institutions, James Cook University.

Additional role information
As with all TPHU staff, the position will be required to perform other appropriate duties from time to time, such as with immunisation, CDC or in response to outbreaks and disasters.

The ideal applicant will be someone who has proven ability and can demonstrate the following:

  • Proven ability to comprehensively assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care at an advanced level within a complex environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective relationships with team members, patients and other stakeholders, including participation in relevant networks to achieve work unit outcomes.
  • Ability to provide nursing leadership in the clinical and professional setting including the role modelling of effective communication and problem solving.
  • Proven ability to use information and reporting systems appropriate to the position in order to achieve outcomes and identify areas for improvement.
  • Proven ability to provide clinical education and support at an advanced level and demonstrate own professional development.
