The role
The intensive care unit (ICU) at the Mount Isa Hospital accepts seriously ill paediatric and maternity patients and is a Level 4 CSCF, 5-bed combined ICU/Coronary Care unit/High dependence Unit. The ICU offers simple invasive cardiovascular monitoring, short-term cardio-respiratory support, and prompt resuscitative management for the critically ill.
Patients who are admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) have reversible conditions that may benefit from nursing and/or medical interventions that go beyond what is possible in the general ward environment, but whose severity does not warrant management in a higher level tertiary intensive care unit.
The Registered Nurse role provides direct clinical care supporting the function of the unit through the application of best practice.
Requirements
Post Graduate Certificate in Intensive Care Nursing, or working towards same, will be highly regarded.
Previous experience in an acute setting is highly regarded.
Experience looking after ventilated patients will be desirable.
Mandatory requirements are a relevant tertiary degree qualification and appropriate registration/licences, evidence of these will be required prior to appointment.
Pre-employment screening will be conducted for the successful candidate; this may include criminal history checks and Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD) risk role compliance.
VPD risk roles may require evidence of vaccination or immunity to: Hepatitis A/B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Pertussis, Tuberculosis and COVID-19.
