About your opportunity
This position, which sits within the Health and Safety team, will contribute to the effective development, management and delivery of professional health, safety and wellness programs and solutions designed to enhance the Townsville Hospital and Health Service (THHS) overall safety performance.

The main focus of the role is to enhance the level of education and awareness and implement endorsed proactive initiatives with the specific aim of preventing injury, enhancing staff health and wellness, and over time minimising workers compensation claims costs. The Safety and Injury Management Advisor will contribute to the THHS's long-term goal in achieving a sustained reduction in incident frequency and severity of injuries.

The incumbent will provide specialist technical advice and guidance on the identification and control of specific work-related hazards and develop responses and approaches to better manage emerging health and safety risks. The role will work collaboratively with the Rehabilitation and Injury Management team, Wellness and Ergonomics team, WHS Systems Advisor, HR Business Partners and Service Group Directors to implement risk mitigation solutions to prevent / minimise workplace injuries and associated costs.

Role requirements

  • Certificate IV Work Health and Safety or equivalent is desirable.
  • Experience in a similar role providing work health and safety services in a large complex organisation would be highly regarded.
  • Occasional travel within the HHS will be necessary to fulfil the role, including obligations to complete training, participate in networks, or to conduct health and safety audits/investigations.
  • This position requires the incumbent to operate a class C motor vehicle and an appropriate license endorsement to operate this vehicle is required. Proof of this endorsement must be provided prior to the commencement of duty.

Generous remuneration package value up to $102,490 p.a. comprising:

  • Salary range of $81,534 to $89,828 p.a. (AO4)
  • 4 weeks annual leave with 17.5% loading
  • 12.75% employer contribution to superannuation.
  • 3 month probation period.
  • Pre-employment checks will be conducted.
